When asked about Candice, many words come to mind: leader, advocate, trailblazer, comedienne, performer, mentor, and mother, to name a few. Candice’s life was a beacon of inspiration, forever etched in the hearts of everyone she crossed paths with.

Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Candice found her home in the Church and Wellesley Village in Toronto.

As a four-time crowned Empress, she embodied the spirit of a true fundraiser. Her passion for creating positive change in the community was boundless. Whether it was on a stage, patio, or poolside, she fearlessly asked for “loonies, toonies, nickels, quarters, or dimes” to support various causes and volunteer fundraising efforts. And when she wasn’t on stage, she could be found attending fundraisers, lending a helping hand to make them successful.

As a figurehead, Candice led the Imperial Court of Toronto with unwavering dedication as Empress 9, 14, 17, and 25, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for important causes. Her leadership was not only about raising funds; it was about guiding and mentoring Court members, both new and established.

Candice generously shared her knowledge of protocol and history, ensuring that the legacy of the Court and it’s founder, José, remained alive. Her home became a sanctuary for performers, as she selflessly spent hours assisting and nurturing their talents, always encouraging them to shine bright.

Her involvement in any project or event was like a command that inspired others to join and make a difference. She had a unique ability to ignite passion in those around her and rally people together for a common cause.

Alongside her work with the court, Candice took on the role of a mentor to aspiring performers, providing an open stage for anyone to develop their skills. Her patience with performers was legendary, and this nurturing environment produced some of Toronto’s finest artists.

Candice’s generosity knew no bounds, and she made sure no one was ever left out or overlooked. She created safe spaces for growth, creativity, and absolute glamour, where individuals could flourish and be their authentic selves.

Her legacy as a mentor and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community will forever stand as a testament to the power of compassion and support. Her unwavering dedication to making the world a better place, one person at a time, is an enduring source of inspiration.

Candice’s story reminds us that true greatness lies in giving back, in lifting others up, and in creating spaces for everyone to thrive.
